Wedding flowers nORFOLK

Well this blog malarkey is a new thing for me, so I thought a good place to start would be to say hello.  My name in Joanna and I own The Little Flower Hut and work from our studio in Barton Turf, just outside Wroxham.

Looking at wedding flower trends for this year I can only go by what my brides are getting excited about to predict the forthcoming trends, and even then every wedding is so individual.  Saying that, the vintage theme is still holding its own this year, with lace, beautiful ribbons, buttons, and brooches adorning bridal bouquets.

Make it personal

I have had a few brides with something personal attached, a locket, with a passed loved ones photo hanging from the flowers, or a family ring attached to the handle….how lovely to feel they are walking down the aisle with you and sharing your special day.

Hand ties

Hand ties are still a firm favourite, which lends itself well to the English country garden look, and all things vintage, and are at the moment the most requested bouquet for me.  They are good for both tall and short brides, and so many flowers can be used either with the stems still showing for a rustic look, or the use of smaller flowers wired into the bouquet.

Flowers are more often now the star feature in most of my bouquets, and brides are asking for a lot less greenery and much more flowers, with an overall tighter feel.  Lucky for me, as this is very much my natural style.  I believe you are paying for the flowers, and don’t agree with having a couple of roses surrounded my tons of greenery.   Although a country bouquet wouldn’t be right without the looser feel, and all the fillers and greenery, so it really does depend on your chosen style.

Glass goblets with flower wreaths are also featuring strongly this year, and were a firm favourite at the EDP wedding show for us.  Using candles really add to the atmosphere, and the wreaths are a cheaper option for table designs.  Alternating between tall vases and low designs is a good way to gain height to the room whilst keeping the cost lower, as there is no doubting that some venues really need some height on the tables otherwise the tables get lost in the big space.  I hate it when you sit down at a wedding table and the flowers are directly in front of your face ad you cant see the guests opposite.  I always suggest to my brides to keep it tall or low.

 Stealing the show

The Amnesia rose is a favourite with lots of brides requesting it, a perfect rose for vintage inspired weddings, as the outer petals have a slight tea stained hue.  Also popular are the roses Memory Lane, and Cool Water.
