There are so many different things to consider when choosing the perfect wedding venue. Here are a few things to consider from Brasted’s leading wedding coordinator before making the important decision.

CHARACTER OR BLANK CANVAS?

Do you want the venue to tell part of your wedding story or do you want to start with a blank canvas from which to create everything yourself? A historic venue can be totally beautiful and interesting setting; it makes a statement and says something about your big day. However, there are often restrictions on decorating and what you can and can’t have.  Choosing something more modern often means you can style the room exactly to your liking, making a very personalised and unique day.

ESTABLISH PRIORITIES

There are so many different options out there, each offering something special, so it is important to establish what your priorities are.

  • Will you require a ceremony at the venue? And if so, does the room fit your dream?
  • Does the venue cater for your numbers; is it too big or too small?
  • Does the venue flow from ceremony to wedding breakfast to evening without any hassle to you?
  •  Are the event organisers friendly and helpful? Will they be there on the day?
  • Does the venue allow flexibility with the food served?
  • Does the venue have accommodation?
  • How easy is the venue to find?
  • Does the venue allow for the kind of evening entertainment you want?
  • Is there plenty of outside space?
  • Is there a wet weather plan?

BUDGETS

Budget is of course a big factor, and the range is huge. There are lovely venues suited to all budgets and a wedding doesn’t have to be in a grand stately home to be perfect. Carefully consider which venues are in your budget and be careful not to fall in love with one you can’t afford!

GETTING WHAT YOU WANT

Making sure you get on with the wedding planner is also important, they are going to be a big part of your day and you need to make sure they listen and understand your needs. Flexibility with a venue is key. It shouldn’t feel as though each wedding follows the same pattern, but that you can create the wedding at the venue you want. Down to the timings of the day, the food, whether you want a small intimate wedding followed by a big party…  Each factor should be about you and your partner, not what the venue dictates.

PICTURE IT!
The list of things to consider can be large, but I think the most important is whether you can picture yourself getting married there on the day. Can you see yourself walking down the aisle and enjoying food and drink in the gardens? Can you see yourself with your partner sitting at the top table enjoying the wedding breakfast you have chosen? Can you see how lovely the room can look when you have put your own spin on it?  Practicalities are of course important, and compromise might be necessary, but the most important thing is to choose a venue that feels right for you.
